Building a business is time consuming and I admit that my artwork has taken a backseat so I can focus on providing the best massage therapy for my clients and growing as a business owner. I have had this painting (and a few others) sitting on my drawing board for 2 YEARS! I've started a few things in that time, but haven't finished a lot. Fortunately (unfortunately?) I had a slow week in the massage studio, so I jumped into the art studio.
I used India ink, watercolor, and pastel pencils for this piece. Pastel pencils are a new addition to my media stash and I am loving the way they add texture with their opacity, but they provide a new challenge in that they smudge easily.
Once the painting is dry, I apply a UV archival varnish. I use a special adhesive to attach the glass dome. I've been asked why I don't just use flat resin or leave the painting exposed. The dome actually directs light into the artwork, and I believe it just looks so other-worldly that way. The finished piece will be set into a pendant and ready for sale soon. Look for it in the shop.
